The Power of Creativity

As a photographer, creativity is my most valuable tool. It’s the secret ingredient that transforms a good photo into something unforgettable and unique. But what fuels creativity, and how can we cultivate it in our everyday lives? These are the questions Bryan Collins explores in his book The Power of Creativity, which I review in my latest video on YouTube. At the channel @Isamindset. A place where I share my sources of inspiration like books, artists, concepts and many more.

Creativity is a skill you can practice

Creativity isn’t just a magical spark that comes and goes—it’s a skill you can develop. In The Power of Creativity, Collins shares actionable insights on how to unlock your creative potential, overcome blocks, and think outside the box. For photographers like me, his lessons resonate deeply, and they’ve inspired me to reflect on how I approach my craft.

Here are a few ideas from the book that I found particularly powerful:

  • Creativity thrives in practice: Collins reminds us that creativity isn’t about waiting for inspiration to strike. It’s about showing up and doing the work consistently. Whether it’s experimenting with new photography techniques or capturing daily moments, creativity grows when you actively engage with it.
  • Overcoming fear and doubt: Creative work often involves vulnerability. Collins emphasizes the importance of silencing self-doubt and embracing mistakes as part of the process. As a photographer, some of my best work has come from taking risks.
  • Drawing inspiration from everyday life: Creativity is all around us if we take the time to notice. From the way light hits a surface to the emotion in a fleeting glance, Collins’ book reminds us to stay curious and open to the world.

In my YouTube video, I dive deeper into Collins’ principles and share how they can apply not only to photographers but to anyone looking to tap into their creative side.
