Why Copyright Matters
When you hire a professional photographer, the images captured are protected by copyright law. This means that:
- The photographer owns the images automatically, from the moment they are created.
- Clients have permission to use the images in the ways agreed in the contract or image release.
- Unauthorized use – like selling, redistributing, or editing without permission – is legally restricted.
Copyright ensures that photographers are recognized and compensated for their work, while also giving clients clear guidance on how to use the images safely.
How I Protect Your Images
At Isa Martins Photography, I make copyright simple and transparent:
- Image Releases
Every client receives an Image Use Authorization, which explains exactly how the photos can be used – for personal, commercial, or social media purposes. - Contracts for Commercial Use
For product photography, branding sessions / personal branding or events, I provide detailed contracts outlining rights, usage, and permitted reproductions. - Respect for Minors and Models
When photographing children or models, I ensure parental or model consent is documented in writing.
Your Rights as a Client
When you work with Isa Martins Photography, you can:
- Use the images in marketing materials, social media, websites, or campaigns, as agreed in your contract.
- Request that specific images not be published at any time.
- Trust that all images are secure, professionally managed, and backed up.
Authorization Assumption Policy
To keep your project on schedule, if an Image Use Authorization or similar release/contract is requested but not signed and returned by the client within a reasonable timeframe, I will assume the images are authorized for use until further notice.
This ensures:
- Your images are delivered and can be published without unnecessary delays
- Both parties have a clear understanding that authorization is assumed in good faith
- You still retain the right to request changes or withdraw permission at any time
My Right as a Photographer
- All images remain the property of Isa Martins Photography for portfolio, exhibitions, stock license or promotional use.
- We retain the right to showcase our work, while respecting client confidentiality if requested.
