Traveling to Peniche or Baleal for the waves?
A surf lifestyle session is the easiest way to walk away with images that actually match how the trip felt. Not just what your phone camera caught between sets.
Ever wondered what a surf trip to Portugal actually looks like – from the outside?
You’ve spent the morning in the water. Salt in your hair, board under your arm, the light doing that thing it only does on the Peniche coastline in the late afternoon. You know this moment is special.
That’s exactly what a surf lifestyle photography Peniche session is for. It’s not about performance shots mid-wave (that’s a different kind of surf photography, with a long lens). It’s about the lifestyle around the surf: walking to the break, waxing the board, the post-session stretch, the salt-crusted smile. The moments surfers actually want to remember but never manage to capture themselves. A more creative and artistic approach where the feeling tells the story.
What to expect from the session
Surf lifestyle sessions run 30–40 minutes and are built around movement, not posing. We’ll walk the coastline together (sometimes literally, since some of the best shots happen mid-stride). Expect a mix of:
- Candid action-adjacent moments – walking, waxing up, checking the swell, that pre-paddle-out pause
- Environmental portraits – you with the board, the ocean and cliffs doing the storytelling in the background
- Close, textural detail shots – salt water on skin, wetsuit zippers, fin detail, sand-dusted feet
- A few directed frames – nothing stiff, just simple guidance (“walk toward me,” “look out at the water”) so you leave with genuinely usable shots, not just observational ones
No posing experience needed. If you can walk toward the ocean and forget I’m there for a few seconds, that’s the whole job.
Best time of year (and day) for this session
Peniche and Baleal have surf almost year-round, but for surf lifestyle photography, timing changes the mood more than the surf conditions do:
- Golden hour (early morning or 1–2 hours before sunset) is the strongest choice, with warm light, longer shadows, and that cinematic surf-film look
- Autumn and spring (Sept–Nov, Mar–May) tend to have the cleanest light and fewer crowds than peak summer.
- Overcast days aren’t a dealbreaker: a flat light actually suits moodier, more editorial-style surf portraits if that’s the vibe you’re after
We’ll pick the slot together based on your travel dates and the swell forecast.
“I had a photoshoot with Isa, and everything was wonderful. She was very kind and professional, and we took so many beautiful pictures. She really took her time to make sure everything was perfect, and I’m very happy with the results. Thank you again, I hope I can come back again in the future! ❤️”

FAQ
Do I need surfing experience for this session?
No. This isn’t a surf lesson or a performance shoot; it’s about capturing you and the coastline, whether you’re a total beginner or you’ve been surfing Supertubos for years.
What happens if the weather or swell isn’t good that day?
We build in flexibility when booking: if conditions look rough, we simply shift the session by a day or two where possible. Overcast light can actually work beautifully for a moodier, editorial feel, so it’s rarely a dealbreaker.
Can I do this session with my partner or friends?
Absolutely. Surf lifestyle photoshoot sessions work great for couples and small groups. Pricing is per person, with a custom quote for larger groups.
Do you provide a board or wetsuit?
You’re welcome to bring your own. If you don’t have gear with you, I can point you toward reliable local rental spots in Peniche or Baleal ahead of time.
How many edited photos will I receive?
You’ll get a sneak peeks within 24–48 hours, followed by your full edited gallery within 5 days. Exact photo count depends on the session, but past Surf Lifestyle sessions typically deliver a generous, varied set covering all the moments above (around 50-70 photos).
Can this be combined with an actual surf lesson?
Yes! If you’d like to pair this with a Surf session, just mention it when booking, and we’ll tailor the timing and value accordingly.
Not a surf lesson. Not a posed portrait. Just you, the board, and the coast. Captured the way it actually feels.
